cads2Bexhill Sailing Club has a well established Cadet Section. We meet on Thursday evenings and some weekends depending on the tides at 6 from early April until September and sail as often as possible.

We do not have a minimum age however sailing from a shingle beach is physically challenging so our Cadets are usually at least 10 years old.

Bexhill has 6 Toppers, 6 Topaz, 6 Laser 2000’s, 1 Dart 16 and 3 RS Fevas and 2 Lasers available for use by the Cadets and many Cadets own their own boats, the majority being Toppers.

The emphasis at Cadets on Thursdays is learning to sail in a safe and fun environment – but the sessions are all run to include many elements of the RYA Youth Training Scheme and progress is monitored enabling all Cadets to progress through the scheme.

All sessions are run by qualified RYA Instructors who are also First Aiders and DBS checked. For those under 16, a responsible adult is expected to remain at the club while Cadets enjoy the sea
The Cadets are also encouraged to gain Powerboat qualifications, to help with Club duties and to participate in the Club Races especially the nominated Cadet Series races.

We have a Cadet Camp during the Summer half-term break – a 3 day Topper camp for the younger or less experienced sailors and a 3 day Feva camp for the seniors or those who want a new challenge.

Bexhill is an RYA Championship Club and compete at County and Regional level during the season.

The BSC Cadet team have won the East Sussex Youth Trophy for the last 2 years and formed the largest entry in the RYA Regional Championships in 2015. Several of our group also travel across the South East for coaching and more racing opportunities.

We finish the season with a Cadet Annual Dinner plus prize giving evening and have occasional winter get-togethers.
