10/11th September 2022:
Sailors raced for the Class Cups , then for charity.
Bexhill sailing club marked the sad loss of our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth II by flying black ribbon on their boats all weekend , when contesting the three races of the different fleets Class Cups. Saturday saw swirling winds with the fragile wind indicators tell-tailing the direction swinging around remorsefully thus giving no guidance to the helm.
The largest fleet was the Slow Fleet , and it was the Cadet Captain Malcolm Brookes , who won ahead of Rachel Wynn , both in Comets , with Cristina Terrazas third in a Byte. The Cats had the normal contenders , but this time Tony Lane with crew Linn Jarvis pipped Flo and Abigail Wright , both in Dart 16A’s.
There was a sizeable Fast Fleet, mostly Lasers. Paul Libreri , showing his continued improving form , took first place , whilst John Stebbing third, both with Radial rigs, Sam Coffey with a full rig second.
Rick Parker , [Laser Radial ] lead in the Novice fleet Marzena Graham [Topper], whilst in the Cadets Nia Byrne [RSFeva] beat Hanna Poulton and Maxy, [ Hartley ] and Logan Adams [Laser4.7]. The winners will await the Annual Dinner for their trophies.
Sunday finished with the annual sailing fraternities charity race known as Bart’s Bash.
Andrew Byrne [ Laser Radial ] , following in his daughters winning footsteps , won the local race from Rick Parker , and his children Finn and Nia Byrne…quite a family affair.
Tina Lewis was fourth, ahead of two cadets , Barney and Eva Harwood .
A good weekends racing, with more to come this weekend , the Club Cup this time .
The club races on…
